gabriel’s game | superwholock

basic storyline: Gabriel traps everyone in his own little world and gets them to play his ‘game’. He says that it will last 24 hours, but he ends up keeping them for longer. Each person has a destiny that they’re refusing to acknowledge and The Doctor is the centerpiece - his death ends the game. the characters roles:

  • John - Hunts with Castiel to find The Doctor
  • Sherlock - Tracks down demons to torture them about information on Gabriel, who he assumes is working for them. John helps him occasionally.
  • Irene - Is double-crossed by Gabriel and tricked into his game. They were once partners.
  • Amy - Is trying to find a way to get out of the game without killing The Doctor, who she travels with until the last few moments, when he loses trust in her and runs.
  • Castiel - Hunts with John to find The Doctor, while keeping an eye on the Winchesters.
  • Sam - Travels with Dean to find Gabriel. Ends up getting killed and brought back to life, as a warning to Dean, who won’t give up his search for the ‘Trickster’.
  • Rory - Splits from The Doctor and Amy and comes across Sam and Dean. He travels with them, helping them find information on Gabriel.
  • Dean - Works alongside Sam and Rory to find Gabriel.

related worlds: Remember my post about Sherlock and Chrestomanci (Conrad's Fate, specifically)?

dragonzair:

dragonzair:

I am now convinced Gatiss and Moffat had been reading Conrad’s Fate while writing A Study in Pink (and a add bit of Chrestomanci in Sherlock). Let me list you the ways:

  • Introduction of the side-kick/best friend character. I know the book’s essentially Conrad’s book, but the entire series IS regarding Chrestomanci’s world. So, hey.
  • Anthea. Nuff’ said. (if you forgot, she’s Conrad’s sister and Mycroft’s PA)
  • Conrad and John both have a ‘sickness’ that isn’t real.
  • Conrad is narrating the book. While John in Sherlock isn’t, Watson usually does so in the books. So, whatever.
  • Christopher’s first meeting of Conrad was basically him summing Con up and taking away the spells from him. Sherlock sums up John’s life with one glance.
  • Christopher and Sherlock both get excited over things that don’t really make sense. Both are also VERY smart.
  • They are both also rather ignorant of whatever goes on outside of what they do best. Or Christopher not knowing at all about the Geography of Series 7. Granted, he doesn’t belong in that world, but still.
  • They dress well.
  • Right after Christopher and Conrad jam the button for the possibility changes, they are overcome by fits of giggles. FITS OF GIGGLES, GUYS. Conrad even says, “It was the silly way you behave when you feel like you’ve almost been caught.”
  • Christopher both infuriates and makes Conrad laugh. John’s had his moments of hilarity with Sherlock, but has also been shown to be very annoyed.
  • “Grant,” Christopher said, “you’re a pest. You keep your nose to my trail like a bloodhound.” vs. Sally’s “Did he follow you home?”
  • “I let Christopher talk to the groom on duty there. He could turn on the charm far better than I could.”
  • Conrad likes heights. John likes the adrenaline rush. I know I’m picking at straws here, but stay with me.
  • Christopher and Sherlock expect people to think the exact same way as them.
  • The scene where both boys were running around the circular staircase when they found Millie reminded me so much of that scene where Sherlock and John go check up on the first victim.”
  •  Mille: “And when I said I wasn’t sure I wanted to go and live all alone with Christopher- well, would you want to, Conrad?” “No,” I said, very definitely. - Lol. Nothing. I just found that hilarious considering Sherlock and John.
  • “Ah. Admire my forethought and cunning, Grant.” I swear, Chrestomanci is just Sherlock in a different universe.
  • “I have quite a mind to drown my sorrows, Grant. I saw Millie. I talked to her. Do you know how to open champagne?” I’m thinking of drunk Sherlock in the unaired pilot, really. XD
  • Gabriel de Witt is either Lestrade or Mycroft. Or both, really. “He also said he was sorry to lose me because, I seemed to be the only person who could make Christopher see sense.”
  • In regards to the above line, Sherlock seems to be a Christopher Chant who has met their Conrad/John Watson much later on in life. I think next season, Sherlock’s going to be slightly more bearable as a person.

And I don’t even think that’s half of it. I’m sure other people could catch even more similarities than I’d done.

MOAR:

  • OH MY GOD. SHERLOCK AND DRESSING GOWNS. NEED TO SEE THIS. Then my visual of a real life Chrestomanci would be complete. Minus the straight hair.

God, I really need to re-watch series 2, and do more in-depth analysis. This post is rather outdated by two years.

Also, Benedict Cumberbatch WOULD make the perfect Christopher Chant.

Ahhh, now I want to reread all of my Chrestomanci books which are 1500 miles away at the moment. And I would love to see Cumberbatch as Christopher Chant, that would be great. All those dressing gowns and lovely suits…

abouttherealawesomestuff:

“I’ve been online and looked at all the theories and there’s one clue that everyone’s missed. It’s something that Sherlock did that was very out of character, but which nobody has picked up on.” - Steven Moffat

Sherlock has his phone (looks to me like that at least) in his hands there, hiding it cleverly in his coat sleeve most of the times.

Why? That leads to my idea related to quote above from Steven Moffat.

I am referring to the conversation between Sherlock and Jim on the roof. Sherlock is doing something out of character there: He’s asking questions, he seems confused. But only that much to not make Jim suspicious.

Sherlock: But the rhythm …

Jim: Partita no. 1, thank you, Johann Sebastian Bach

Sherlock: But then how did you …?

And then Jim explains his entire plan how he broke in several important buildings at once. It’s not the only time in that conversation where Sherlock acts like the “dumber one” of both, of course not too bluntly so Jim doesn’t realize what’s going on.

Why does Sherlock act like he’s lost and hasn’t figured out Jim’s entire plan? So he can record what Jim is saying (in sense of a confession) on his phone, which he has in his hand/coat sleeve.

When you watch the scene again, Sherlock steps to the edge of the roof, till to that point he was acting. Then he starts laughing, cause he feels like he has won. The most important parts he probably has recorded. So he steps back down again. Now he’s back to his “normal self”. I feel like you can see it in his attitude even (comparing 2nd screenshot with 3rd)

Later, when he’s on the phone with John, Sherlock says: “This is my note.”

Before he jumps of the building, he throws the phone away, to leave it on the roof.

Hmm, these are my thoughts to the scene so far.

“This is my note.”
